The CEO of Intel,  Paul Otellini seems to make it a point to remind us of this fact about once or imagetwice a year and after what I see today in the news and some of the luddite type of legislation that appears on our landscape, I think he makes some good points, whether or not he can capture the luddite thinking in Washington to wake up to that fact remains to be seen, but he keeps trying to find those open ears.  the Intel CFO says the same thing.

He mentions the US hostile environment and mentions efforts of others, like Bill Gates in trying to convey the same message.  Today the company has purchased the German chip maker, Infineon which are used in mobile communication devices like the iPhone.  You can read more at TechCrunch.image

“For instance: In 2005, midway through the Bush administration, Microsoft's Bill Gates told a Washington audience that curbs on immigration and guest workers would provide a boost to research institutions in China and India. Instead of moving forward and getting folks out of the 8 track world in healthcare we continue to see items like this link below in the news where more than likely some of those making these statements could very well be among the non participant groups, and this hits hard for US citizens when we have the pot calling the kettle black.  From what I see and read in the news every day, we certainly don’t see an role models here with using technology and making that available in the news.  Social news today is about sharing good and worthwhile experiences but instead we still get this old paradigm of “its for those guys over there” and we kind still get a lot of the blind leading the blind.  image

A big part of our problem today is old luddite thinking and non participation as if you don’t increase your level of technology to basic consumer digital IT, and we need leaders that embrace this so relevant laws can be passed, the world is going to pass us by while we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot.  This is not 20 years ago where the US was leading the pack as other developing countries are here to give us a run for the money.  BD

ASPEN, Colo.--Intel Chief Executive Officer Paul Otellini offered a depressing set of observations about the economy and the Obama administration Monday evening, coupled with a dark commentary on the future of the technology industry if nothing changes.

Otellini's remarks during dinner at the Technology Policy Institute's Aspen Forum here amounted to a warning to the administration officials and assorted Capitol Hill aides in the audience: unless government policies are altered, he predicted, "the next big thing will not be invented here. Jobs will not be created here."

The U.S. legal environment has become so hostile to business, Otellini said, that there is likely to be "an inevitable erosion and shift of wealth, much like we're seeing today in Europe--this is the bitter truth
